How to Activate a Bank of America Debit Card? (2022)

With operations in all 50 states and in cities such as London, Toronto and Hong Kong, Bank of America is one of the biggest banks in the world. With an astonishing 4,600 banking centers, 15,900 ATMs and $1.7 trillion in deposits, Bank of America offers its clients both credit and debit cards. The bank will offer you a debit card upon opening a checking account. In order to use this card, you’ll first have to activate it. Luckily, activating a Bank of America debit card is a pretty simple process.

Activating the Debit Card over the Internet

One of the easiest ways to activate a Bank of America debit card is on the internet. With access to the internet, it will take you less than five minutes to activate your debit card. This process requires you to enroll in the bank’s online banking. If you’ve not enrolled in online banking, you can easily enroll on the Enrollment Page and then activate the debit card.

You’ll begin the activation process as soon as you receive your new Bank of America debit card. The bank often sends the debit card and the Personal Identification Number (PIN) separately in mail for security reasons. After receiving your debit card, you can follow the steps below to activate your debit card :

Step 1. Head over to the bank’s online banking dashboard.

Step 2. If you’ve not created an account, you can create one by providing your full Social Security number and the last six digits of your debit card number.

Step 3. From there, you’ll have to choose an online ID and a pass-code.

Step 4. Log into your online banking account using your user ID and pass-code.

Step 5. After logging into your account, you can activate your debit card by entering the following information:

  1. Unique 16 digits on the front section of the card just above your name.
  2. The card’s expiry date
  3. The CVV number; a unique 3-digit number at the back of the card.
  4. By filling in all these information, Bank of America will confirm your identity and activate your card.

Activating the Debit Card over the Phone

As a debit cardholder, you can activate your card by calling this toll-free number: 800.432.1000. Note that this number is for customers based in the U.S. If you reside in Canada, the UK or any other part of the world, you can activate your debit card by calling: 1.315.724.4022. It’s important to mention that you’re calling to activate your debit card as soon as you’re connected to an operator.

Another easy way to activate your Bank of America debit card is after receiving your PIN (which will be sent separately with your debit card). You can simply use the debit card at any Bank of America ATM by slotting in your card, entering your PIN and your debit card will be automatically activated!

Last but not least, you can visit any Bank of America branch and ask a banker to activate your debit card for you.

To this end, there’s no doubt that activating your Bank of America debit card is very easy if you follow any of the above steps. There are many options, so it’s upon you to choose the one that perfectly suits your needs and schedule.
